The Panda is on a rampage and it is taking down whole villages now. February 17th marked a huge turning point with Google. On that day THOUSANDS of websites across the Internet were penalized.
The blood thirsty Panda wasn’t finished yet though, it would continue pillaging village after village but it still hasn’t had its fill.
If you want the technicalities of the update, you can read them here:
Over 40 new updates have been implemented this month. Most of them smaller and they won’t make major changes in your search results. HOWEVER, one very important update took place and this is likely the update that happened on February 17th.
“We improved how Panda interacts with our indexing and ranking systems, making it more integrated into our pipelines… This launch refreshes data in the Panda system, making it more accurate and more sensitive to recent changes on the web… We often use characteristics of links to help us figure out the topic of a linked page. We have changed the way in which we evaluate links; in particular, we are turning off a method of link analysis that we used for several years. We often rearchitect or turn off parts of our scoring in order to keep our system maintainable, clean and understandable.”
Panda, which looks for fresh, unique, relevant content is now running faster and is far more fluent but the kicker in all of that is that they are turning off a method of link analysis that they have been using for the last several years.
What does that mean exactly? Nobody knows at this point. When pressed further on that statement, they said they have given all of the information they chose to reveal.
One thing is for certain though, things are going to continue changing in a big way over the next year and it will be very interesting to see how it all plays out.
Until this blood thirty creature has had its fill however, I suggest you lock your doors and hide your children because the Panda is coming!
