network marketing do you have what it takes?Do you have what it takes to succeed in network, mlm, or affiliate marketing? The answer to that is of course you do! We all have the ability to succeed within us, we just have to be shown the right way.

Success should be treated like a science because there are certain universal steps that apply to “making it” in any business.

And these steps can be duplicated by anybody, and will achieve positive results over and over again without fail.

The real question is, are you currently on the right path to success? Here are 3 questions you need to ask yourself to find out!

1. Have I focused on and written down what my true “purpose” is for being in my business?

I’m sure part of the reason you started your business was to make money, but that is a very superficial reason that will not give you any true motivation.

Look, we all care about having money right? The fact is that it is extremely important. What I am asking you to do is dig a little bit deeper though and find out why having more money is important to you?

For me, it’s personal freedom, the ability to take care of my family; go wherever I want, whenever I want; living debt free; having the means to give back to the community, etc…

Now that is a means of motivation far beyond just saying “money”. Take the time, write out your purpose, and post it where it will constantly be in plain sight. Then every time your attention starts to waver, take a moment to read your purpose and read it with passion. Feel it. Feel your purpose from deep inside of you, and notice what a dramatic difference it makes in your day!

2. Do I spend the time I have allocated to working on my business, actually working on my business?

For some people they can very quickly answer that question with a certain “no”. For many others however, they may not realize that “no” is the correct answer for them as well.

Often times people confuse activity with progress. You have to get papers organized, and then you need to re-organize a list. Then you remember that you need to read or re-read some training article. Then you need to check your facebook. Then you need to check your twitter.

The mind is slick and it is pre-programmed to keep you comfortable. It’s a safety mechanism that serves us well when it comes to keeping us from running out into traffic, but is extremely harmful when it comes to growing your business.

Your subconscious mind will convince you that you’re working hard because you are being active, when the truth is nothing is being accomplished.

Do yourself a favor and write out your goals for the day, the night before. Get everything organized and in place that you will need. If you do that, you will find that you are getting more accomplished in 1 – 2 hours of work than you did before in a full 8 hour day!

3. Do I have a mentor that is actively working with me on a step by step process?

The fact of the matter is that nobody “makes it” on their own. You need a mentor who provides more than telling you to make a friends and family list and pestering them until they are sick of you.

You need to know how to do more than the “3 foot rule” where everyone that comes within 3 feet of you, you’re supposed to pitch.

You need more than being told to go online and “friend” every single person you can find and plaster/spam your “great opportunity” all over social networking sites.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but none of those people care about what you have to say when it comes to your “great opportunity”.

Everybody’s company is great, everybody’s company has an amazing pay plan, everybody’s product or in some cases lack of a product is incredible, and everybody just needs to recruit two people who will recruit two people, blah blah blah.

I don’t want to hear it and neither does anyone else because it’s a bunch of crap!

People DO NOT join companies or products… they join YOU!

Take the time to find out about me, my dreams, and my goals. Then tell me how YOU can help me achieve those goals and now I will listen.

If you aren’t doing this, if you don’t know how to do this, then you need to find a mentor that will teach you, because this is the only way to build long-term passive and residual income, no matter what your business is!

  1. great article, Robert!

  2. So true Robert. I hope everybody that looks for a new home business reads this article. So many people fall for the old school hype and are motivated by successful network marketers in the same business. Big mistake. I wish I had read this when I first started. A mentor that knows all the latest strategies in marketing and lead conversion and teaches their team is always going to have a team of successful like minded network marketeers. Nice post!

  3. Awesome comment Rick!

  4. Thank you, Robert. This is very helpful. Have looked at Google Blogger. Am getting my work completed before I put it together on a blog…will ask for your opinion when I've done it. Would really value your input… Charisse.

  5. Thanks Charisse! I would highly recommend you go with WordPress over Blogger. It is just a much more powerful tool that you can do so much more with and it really is pretty easy to learn.

I was actually thinking about making a training video showing how to set one up properly from scratch, complete with all the proper SEO benefits installed and ready to go.

Let me know if something like that would be a benefit to you and I am looking forward to seeing what you've got :D

  6. Outstanding Robert. All three questions are huge and to be answered. Within #2 is a biggie for me, "Often times people confuse activity with progress." What I/we do with time is so important: strategic vs. tactical vs. wasting…Thanks for the reminders!!

  7. Spot on, Robert! I do believe that EVERYONE has what it takes. Trouble is, many of them don't believe it themselves.

  8. This is so right on! Robert, you have really drilled down to the core of the issue and why people fail at driving their own businesses. Well written and concise… this could be the Prolog to a book. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Hi Robert,

busy activity doesn't necessarily equal successful business building – it's simply busy-ness that prevents us from doing what we need do. Your advice is therefore very important: Plan you day and set your goals for the day.

    Take care

    Oliver
